Baseball

The Finger Lakes Baseball program is one of the strongest NJCAA Division III programs in the country. The 1997 season saw the Lakers set a record by winning 38 games and losing just seven. In 1992, the Lakers finished fourth in the country, and in 1994 they finished seventh.

In the last 17 years, the baseball program has produced ten All-American players, 47 All Region players, and two Academic All-American players. During the same time period, 24 Laker players have earned athletic scholarships to NCAA Division I and II schools. Finger Lakes had one former player in the Milwaukee Brewer organization, Brian Schubmehl (Wayland-Cohocton). Former team member Rich Terwilliger (Corning East) was drafted from the 1998 team by the Houston Astros in the 18th round.

Each year, the team plays between 55 and 65 games. The College has an infield tarp that allows the Lakers to play when others are “washed out.” Team tryouts take place in the fall with practice sessions held Monday through Friday and contests on the weekends. Each spring before regional play begins, the team plays ten to fifteen game pre-season in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
