Men's Track
2009 SEASON REVIEW
Rewriting the record books seemed to be the mission of the 2009 Laker men, as 11 new marks were established come seasons end.
Zach Amidon, fresh off a New York state championships in the high school 400-meter hurdles a year prior, set records in the 200-meter dash (23.04), 400-meter dash (49.86), and 400-meter hurdles (56.09). Amidon placed sixth in both 400 disciplines at the NJCAA Division III National Championships.
Dynell Scott set a new record in the 800-meter run (2:06.95), and Chris Driscoll broke the record in the 5,000-meter run (17:29.47) while Ben Howard broke his own 10,000-meter record (37:55.45).
In the field events, Kahrim Stevens broke records in the discus (34.53m) and the javelin (41.69). Adam Scheele broke his own record in the pole vault (3.35m).
In perhaps one of the most exciting events of the entire 2009 season, the men broke the record in the 4x400-meter relay, with a photo-finish 3:30.09 in the preliminary heats at the NJCAA Division III National Championships. Josh Shelton, in his first attempt at the distance all year, led off with an incredible first-leg, followed by Euphrates Moore, Shane Shaffer, and Mike Werner. The men also set the record in the 4x800-meter relay (8:47.25), featuring Moore, P.J. Steblen, Jeff Hudson, and Scott.
In three years as a program, the Colts of college track have one national champion and a half-dozen national finalists.
