TEAM FINISHES ON WINNING NOTE

The Lady Lakers finished 2009 with two victories over Columbia-Greene CC to set an all time record for wins in a season. Playing their best softball of the year, the team won 5 out of their last 6 games.

Leading the team as she did last year was two-time MVP Jessica Notebaert(Geneva). Jessica was the second leading hitter on the team with a .411 batting average. She struck out only four times all season while finishing second in RBI's. Jessica also played outstanding defense playing both shortstop and catcher. Jessica was selected to the First Team in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jessica plans to continue her career at St. Jonn Fisher in the fall.

Emily Pettengill (Bloomfield), a Freshman catcher led the team in hitting with a .413 average and also led the team in RBI's. Emily was also nominated for all conference. Also nominated for all conference were Nikki Saavedra (Wayne) and Elly Disbrow (Penn Yan).

Saavedra was the leading pitcher backed up by Freshman Alyssa Liberatore (Geneva-DeSales). Pettengill tied for the team lead in homeruns along with Jenna Weaver (Batavia) and Ashlee Langley (South Seneca)

Other players who contributed to the success of the team were Kirsten Goranowski (Williamson), Terra Laurie (Byron-Bergen) and Lindsay Wellspeak (Alexander).

With only two Sophomores(Notebaert and Laurie) the Lady Lakers seem to be in a good position to improve on this year's record.

On a final note, Coach Art Barrett was selected as the Coach of the Year for the Mid-State Athletic Conference.
