FLCC / ATHLETICS / WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The team finished off the regular season with a 69-61 win at Cayuga. The win put the Lakers into a first place tie with Broome. The tournament was played at Broome since they won a coin toss. In the first game of the tournament the Lakers defeated Onondaga for the third time this year by a score of 70-60. In the championship game Broome defeated FLCC by the score of 73-51.

The Lakers now enter the Regional Tournament as the #3 seed and will play Onondaga again. The tournament will be played at Tompkins-Cortland C.C. Feb.29-Mar.2.

Brittany Williams from Wilson was selected as Region III Player of the Year and Tiffany Sullivan was the second highest vote getter behind Williams to make first team All-Region. With these honors, both players will be nominated for All-American.

MEET THE COACH

Head coach Art Barrett comes to FLCC with over twenty years of experience as a head coach at the High School and Junior College levels. His career record is 307-190, which includes a record of 129-34 while at Monroe Community College.

In 1992 Coach Barrett was selected as New York State Junior College Coach of the Year. In 1996 he again received this honor along with District D Coach of the Year and Region III Coach of the Year. His 1996 MCC team was runner-up to the national championship and finished with a 30-3 record.

 


LADY LAKERS FINISH SEASON 25-6
The Finger Lakes Lady Lakers finished a very successful season losing in the Semi-finals of the Region III D III Championship to the eventual champion Mohawk C.C.The team reached the semi-finals by defeating Onondaga C.C. for the fourth time this season by a score of 68-52. Leading the team to victory was Freshman Brittany Williams from Wilson Magnet who scored 28 points and pulled down 25 rebounds. [continued >>]
